Summary
This historic site is on the northwest corner of Lake Forest Dr and Serrano Rd. Its parking lot is shared with a shopping center. Four key historical buildings are at this site representing different time periods. The first is the Serrano Adobe, which the park centers around. It’s the only historical building here that’s in its original location. It represents early California when many Mexican ranchos still existed. It was built on a rancho in 1863, only thirteen years into California being established. The other buildings were relocated here and represent the early post-rancho era, from late 1800’s to early 1900’s. The grammar school and episcopal church were built in 1890 and 1891 respectively. The Harvey Bennett Ranch House was built in 1908 when citrus farming dominated the region. Additionally, although replicas, there are also Native American huts representing the period prior to colonization. The back of the park has a nice shaded walkway and small trail network on a sloping hillside, but it isn’t always accessible. Free drop-in use for visitors anytime during normal hours of operation. Call (949) 923-2230 for more info.
Fee if wanting to reserve
This venue can be reserved for events like weddings, parties, or organized community events. The historic church has been used for wedding ceremonies and so has the gazebo area. Receptions are usually held in the rodeo styled Wagon Wheel area next to the ranch house. OC Parks also throws their own annual community events here for Christmas and Halloween among others sporadically throughout the year. Call (949) 923-2230 for fees and to reserve.
