Summary
This space is can currently only be used by reservation only and vehicle access is restricted for casual drop-in use. It’s located off Shady Canyon Road and there will be a sign for it at the turn in. It can be easy to pass because there aren’t warning signs prior to approaching the turn (cars behind you will also be going 55mph, higher than average speed limit). If the turn is missed, you can continue on to Turtle Rock Community Park, safely turn back around in that parking lot, then go back.
Upon reaching the entrance, a parking lot and bathrooms will be seen. To get the space, you need to take the road to the left of that for a mile and then it will be on the right. The road is usually gated off unless there’s an active event going on.
This site was a former a herding station for the Irvine Company’s Cattle Ranch from the late 1800’s to 1985, and was donated to the city in 2002, along with the surrounding trails. Although social events have been held here regularly dating back to mid 1970’s, it closed for a few years for renovations and reopened in 2023. There’s a stage, picnic tables, bonfire pit, kitchen, bathrooms, and dance area. The design is a throwback to the original herding station. Call 949-724-6620.
