Description
Estancia Park is home to the Diego Sepulveda Adobe, a California Historical Landmark (#227) built in 1823. The adobe first served as a layover for herdsmen from Mission San Juan Capistrano, later becoming headquarters for Diego Sepulveda, when he managed Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana. The Costa Mesa Historical Society currently manages the adobe. Visitors can tour it every first and third Saturday of the month from 12-4 pm
Behind the adobe is a shaded stone walkway with steps that meanders through eucalyptus trees. There are also seating areas along the path and local residents use the area to walk their dogs. The adobe side lawn features two picnic tables available for rent with barbeque grills, while a larger lawn and the park’s restrooms are located in front of the adobe. Be aware the park can be noisier than expected as it backs to Adams Avenue, a main thoroughfare.
Note: The park cannot be seen from the parking lot because of hedges that line the permiter. Visitors must take the short path between the hedges to enter.
