Description
Badlands Park is located in Laguna Niguel and operated by the County of Orange. It offers a clear view of the ocean and of Laguna Beach below. The right side of the main entrance leads to a path with benches and picnic areas perfect for relaxing. The left side descends toward a unique, rocky, sandy area known as “The Badlands”.
To visit this unique feature, park on Isle Vista street and take the public stairwell up to the park entrance. Once at the top, turn left onto the trail enclosed by wooden rails and nearby homes. Proceed down a flight of wooden stairs to reach the lower trail, and the Badlands begin a few hundred feet down on the right. There will be one rock outcropping in particular standing alone by itself. People use it as a place to sit and meditate while enjoying the views.
Background
The Badlands are eroded sandstone formations resembling a miniature version of the South Dakota Badlands. This appearance is the result of millions of years worth of geological transformations, dating back to the Miocene era, when the land was underwater. Visitors from Laguna Beach often visit to escape larger crowds. Find more information on the City of Laguna Niguel website.
Fee if wanting to reserve
Picnic tables are first come first serve, although they are usually always available.
