Sanctuary Purpose & Environment:
The sanctuary offers public recreation (hiking, walking, birdwatching) and serves as a vital haven for more than 300 bird species. Its primary purpose, however, is to function as a natural water treatment facility: it filters urban water before it flows into San Diego Creek, and eventually to Newport Bay and the ocean. This filtration process is why the marsh features numerous ponds; you can access the trails to view these ponds by walking behind the lawn area.
The entire sanctuary is owned and managed by the Irvine Ranch Water District (IRWD). For additional inquiries, call IRWD Customer Care at 949-453-5300.
Fee if wanting to reserve
Non reservable, but people do have parties or small gatherings here on a first come first serve basis.
