Summary
Arroyo Park is a block away from the 73 Freeway off Bison Avenue. From Bison Avenue, turn onto Bayswater and follow signs to the park, which is in a small canyon. The bathrooms, basketball court, and playground are nearest to the parking lot. Behind those are the soccer and baseball fields. On Saturdays, parking may overflow to where cars are parked in the red due to organized youth sport activities. Otherwise, the park should have less than average visitor traffic. Before reaching the park’s parking lot, you will pass a small parking lot on the left. The end of that lot has an access path to the Bonita Creek Trail, which takes you north to Bonita Creek Park. Once just a concrete channel, Bonita Creek was restored in 1995 with coastal sage scrub for the wildlife. It normally is dry or absent of water unless it rains. In the event of rain, water will flow into the larger San Diego Creek, then eventually to Back Bay. Bonita Creek Trail looks like a paved bike path although pedestrians can also use it.
Fee if wanting to reserve
The four semi-covered picnic tables closest to the playground are reservable (see photo). For up-to-date pricing, visit the Newport Beach Facility Rentals Page, scroll down to Reservable Picnic and/ or Park Areas, then click the link to their Facility Rentals Packet. Currently, renting two tables at a time in Summer 2025 will cost $51/hr for residents or $104/hr for non-residents.
